A Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, a real review

Image
If you’re a fan of the show and, looking for something to fill the time between seasons or, even just a fan of puzzles, this game should be up your alley. The only goal of the game is to complete the one task assigned to you by Rick, do his laundry. Seems simple, no? Well, get ready for the most adventure-filled errand you have ever run. In the game you play as a clone of Morty, Rick’s grandson and sidekick, to do Rick’s laundry while the pair of them are off adventuring around the universe. Start by dropping the clothing in the washer, add some detergent and hit the start button only to find that the damn thing is broken. Rick could come and help you but he has better things to do and you are an expendable piece of his operation, something quickly found out when accidentally killing yourself with one various tools in his garage. The gameplay, for the most part, consists of solving puzzles of varying difficulty, from charging a battery using toggles and switches hit in the correct or...

Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards, an R Rated Adventure Time-ish Board Game you might have missed

Image
Have you ever dreamt of being an all-powerful wizard, smiting your foes with your special brand of magic? Did you enjoy the T.V. show Adventure Time and its’ unique, sometimes unsettling art style? Are you a fan of (fictitiously) killing your friends? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then you should pick up a copy of the board game Epic Spell Wars of The Battle Wizards Duel at Mt Skullzfyre . (TL;DR below) The gameplay of this unique card battling game has the wizards draw eight cards which, are used as pieces to a spell to cast. These spells consist of three parts; source, quality, and delivery, arranged in a way to create the most powerful spell with which to smite your enemies. After building the spell, wizards’ place the pieces of the spell face down in front of them, the most powerful spell casts first. Each takes a turn reading the name of their spell in the voice of their chosen wizard and are penalized if they fail to do so. This element makes it all the ...

Why the newest iteration of the Grinch worth your time

I grew up watching The Grinch, the 1966 version, every December while making nifty handcrafted gifts for aunts and uncles.  The movie was only a scant twenty-six minutes but it didn’t need to be unnecessarily long since it was based off a children’s picture book that’s sixty-nine pages long depicting a grumpy green creature annoyed by the noise caused by festivities in Whoville so, he aspires to steal what he perceives to be the reason for the season, only to find that they are just as annoying without the trinkets so, he has a change of plans (heart) and joins them instead.  A touching story how singing can cause a heart to grow and a Grinch to stop being a total buzz kill.  Being such a fan of the original I was skeptical about the first remake but it had Jim Carrey as the Grinch so, it could be pretty good. How wrong I was.                 After being so disappoi...

Five or so, reasons why Shawn of the Dead is a masterpiece

Image
If you have never seen the movie Shaun of the Dead , I implore you to reconsider.  “A romantic comedy with zombies” was the tagline emblazoned on the poster that hung during its limited theatrical release back in the year 2004, one that is the most accurate to the story of the movie.  You may have been one of the many missed out on this gory masterpiece that, I shall be taking a more in-depth look at for my first ever deep dive into the structure of script writing.  I will draw out the elements, using tools learned over scholarly endeavors, which make this film one of my favorites to watch on any occasion. Also, spoilers ahead. Duh. The most important element at the beginning of any story is to familiarize yourself with the characters and the setting of the film, something that is usually accomplished exposition.  In a movie, it is imperative to establish this within the first ten minutes, or so, of the film since time is limited. This constraint forces scripts t...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

There are spoilers ahead if you have never read the books or seen the movie  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 , stop reading this and go watch the movie. I have only used the world in to which we are introduced after the credits rolls. This is not fanfiction as I use only the world that is created after the credits roll and my own set of characters. With that being said, please enjoy this work of fiction.                 Alma sat in the dining room, staring at a picture of her son while stirring a cup of steaming tea. The picture was of the day that he left for his first day at Hogwarts, three years ago. He stood on the platform 9 and three-quarters, trying to lift cage containing his pet owl, a shy grin on his face. It had taken her three attempts to get him to both smile and hold the cage high enough and the last was nearly ruined when the train whistled its final boarding. That year, he hugged her long and hard be...

It had been a month since but they still had whole streets closed for cleansing which, made going to the store that much tedious by adding a half hour to errand. She had listened to the man on the TV and stayed indoors with the doors and windows locked, it helped that she was near the top of an apartment building with doors that required a keycard to enter. After the TV when dead she spent the night in bed, listening to music and reading a biography. The following morning she awoke to gunfire as the National Guard cleared the streets ...
